Carrier Releases HAP v4.90 HVAC System Design Software Focused on Heat Recovery Modeling

CHICAGO -

Carrier’s new hourly analysis program (HAP) software, version 4.90, includes new energy modeling features for a range of heat recovery plants. Carrier, the world’s leader in high technology heating, ventilating and air-conditioning solutions, is a part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

The latest enhancement to Carrier’s eDesign™ Suite of software tools, HAP v4.90 represents the next step in Carrier’s drive to deliver the most reliable and energy-efficient HVAC solutions for commercial buildings. Its new features allow evaluation of the annual energy performance of five common types of heat recovery plants using water-cooled chillers and two types of heat recovery plants using air-cooled chillers. In addition, HAP supports the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® rating system by calculating building energy performance for the energy and atmosphere “minimum energy performance” prerequisite and the “optimize energy performance” credit.

“After 40 years of steady improvement in building energy efficiency, engineers and owners are beginning to change their focus from maximizing component efficiency to maximizing overall system efficiency,” said Greg Alcorn, vice president, commercial sales and marketing, Carrier. “Heat recovery represents a promising strategy for elevating system efficiency, and HAP v4.90’s new features play a key role supporting application of heat recovery systems in building projects.”
