The wall unit works OK, but few control and energy tracking features

The Carrier Wall Controller works with the complexities of a multi-speed heat pump, but offers few features beyond a simple thermostat. The App "Energy Insights" does not display hour-by-hour tracking that I am used to on other controllers (i.e. Nest, Hunter). The thermostat and APP only can display the last two individual days of daily historical usage using Energy Insights (then it displays the last two complete months of usage), and programmable temperatures are limited to 3 pre-programmed settings (Wake, Home, Sleep). The variable speed is whisper quiet, and the controller does hold the room temperature to +-1F of setpoint. Both the APP and the wall unit have frequent software updates (4 updates in 9 months) which seems like too many for a thermostat. I do not like that I have to have a service call to set the heat-pump outdoor trigger temperature--the setpoint function is buried in the installer programming, and there are no setpoint instructions available in the owners manuals. I have had problems with remotely trying to use the APP to set vacation settings and change the temperature when not onsite; the smartphone APP says the temperature has changed, but the wall unit still has the old numbers. The thermostat cost was part of the total replacement heat pump installation, however, a replacement thermostat appears to cost more than $1000 if it breaks (never found an actual cost)--which is why the warranty is rated low. To summarize, the wall unit controller does maintain the house temperature to +-1F of the setpoint. But the temperature set point is limited to 3 choices (Wake, Home, Sleep). There is no historical tracking to find out the energy usage of a day, more than 2 days ago. There are hidden features of the controller setpoints that are not accessible to the owner.

It took 3 tries to have one that worked. It still will not connect to the internet. Have tried calling support can not get through or talk with help.

4. To the original owner on eligible equipment for eligible residential applications. Warranty period is 5 years if not registered within 90 days. Jurisdictions where warranty benefits cannot be conditioned on registration will automatically receive a 10-year parts limited warranty, which can be changed to the 5-year parts, plus a 3-year labor option on eligible equipment within the first 90 days after installation. The 5-year parts, plus 3-year labor warranty option is available only if the installing dealer/contractor has elected to participate in the Consumer Choice warranty program and has accepted the Consumer Choice dealer terms and conditions.
