More Problems Than Expected

I have had many issues with this unit to date. More than I expected from a Carrier Product.

Installer made Carrier look BAD!

The first unit had electronics that did not work! Replacements were not available for 4 days! Then the Roscoe Brown installer oriented the unit incorrectly so the safety shut off kicked on after 15 min. They tried telling me that couldn’t happen at first. Except I was here and could experience it every time. The entire install took 33 DAYS! WHY? Perhaps you need to train the companies you sell equipment to so that their incompetence does not reflect badly on Carrier. The fact that one of their installers lied about the unit operating properly so that RB thought it was done and didn’t send a crew out the next morning to complete the final tests didn’t seem to bother the manager too much. Excuses were made. Every time I’d report a ‘problem’ they would tell me that it ‘couldn’t be dong that’. Right! But it was. They made Carrier look disreputable. We were without heat during most of that month long experience, with some cold nights. At the very last, I reported that the thermostat was not causing the gas unit to come on and the heat pump was operating below 40 degrees. Again they said, it can’t do that - it’s set correctly. Finally sent a man to check and he discovered that the thermostat had NOT been connected to the outside sensor….so there was NO way for the thermostat to operate correctly, hence the gas unit had not been able to kick in as it was supposed to. We got vague apologies from Roscoe Brown. And they insisted that while Carrier stood behind it’s products, they, RB, could not provide any sort of compensation for 33 DAYS of chaos (missed work days having to be here for access to the house, a cold house - and the cost of buying some ceramic heaters and increased electric bill b/c of them) b/c Carrier would not provide RB any compensation for the 2 units which had to be replaced, stalling the initial work for about 10 days. TRAIN these people! Everyone I’ve told has been amazed that a company like Carrier would allow such inadequate performance.

1. To the original owner on eligible equipment for eligible residential applications. Warranty period is 5 years if not registered within 90 days. Jurisdictions where warranty benefits cannot be conditioned on registration will automatically receive a 10-year parts limited warranty, which can be changed to the 5-year parts, plus a 3-year labor option on eligible equipment within the first 90 days after installation. The 5-year parts, plus 3-year labor warranty option is available only if the installing dealer/contractor has elected to participate in the Consumer Choice warranty program and has accepted the Consumer Choice dealer terms and conditions.
2. To the original owner on eligible equipment for eligible residential applications. Lifetime heat exchanger parts limited warranty period is 20 years if not registered within 90 days. Jurisdictions where warranty benefits cannot be conditioned on registration will automatically receive a lifetime heat exchanger parts limited warranty. See warranty certificate for details.
This furnace does not comply with SCAQMD Rule 1111 or SJVAPCD Rule 4905, which places a NOx emission limit of 14 ng/J. Therefore, this unit is not eligible to be installed in the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) nor the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District (SJVAPCD).
