Good furnace and heat pump combo, but a temperature sensor would make it better.

I was told this furnace and heat pump combo requires the ecobee thermostat to connect to WiFi so that it can go online and check the local weather to get the outside temperature, in order to efficiently operate the heat pump. A simple temperature sensor on the heat pump could provide the thermostat with the outside temperature instead. The software/firmware of the ecobee thermostat has some bugs in it that suggest it was not thoroughly tested, so I would not feel comfortable that the thermostat properly addressed cybersecurity vulnerabilities while connected to WiFi.

1. To the original owner on eligible equipment for eligible residential applications. Warranty period is 5 years if not registered within 90 days. Jurisdictions where warranty benefits cannot be conditioned on registration will automatically receive a 10-year parts limited warranty, which can be changed to the 5-year parts, plus a 3-year labor option on eligible equipment within the first 90 days after installation. The 5-year parts, plus 3-year labor warranty option is available only if the installing dealer/contractor has elected to participate in the Consumer Choice warranty program and has accepted the Consumer Choice dealer terms and conditions.

This furnace does not comply with SCAQMD Rule 1111 or SJVAPCD Rule 4905, which places a NOx emission limit of 14 ng/J. Therefore, this unit is not eligible to be installed in the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) nor the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District (SJVAPCD).
