Problems with return air
June 10, 2026
I paid for the furnace on 12/11/2024 after it was installed. The unit heats and cools but there is a problem with the two return air ducts to the unit. I have called the installer company in the past and I believe I have had two calls about the return air. I was told that the fan is running at the correct rpm. No explanation of why there is so little air being sucked through the returns. The units I had in the past would suck the filter right into the filter holder as I was installing a new filter. This unit does not do that. It seems as if there is a restriction in the unit that restricts the air flow through the two returns. I even have installed the cheap green filters instead of filtrete filters just to maybe help with the air movement through the returns. It seems to me that the unit should circulate the air in the house through the returns to help for the correct temp set at the thermostat. This unit barely has any air moving through the two returns in my house. The house is a tri-level with one return in the den on the lowest level and the other return is in the hallway going up stairs. This past winter, the furnace would run almost constantly and I had some enormous natural gas bills for two months, (above $300). The unit heats and cools but not satisfied with the two return lines going to the unit. Just think that the unit should pull more air from the house through the two returns to help with the cooling or heating of the house. I would appreciate any information about the returns, is this normal for this unit or is there a problem?
