Heat Pump

Very efficient and amazingly quiet.
Long on technology short on performance and not quiet.

The unit is full of tech features but it does not do a great job on the basics (especially heating) and working with Carrier has been troublesome. The blower is noisy due to the install method. The unit has a base galvanized inlet that seems to flex and make a rattle that can be heard through the entire house at the vent grilles. The heating speed is slow. The company could not (would not) give me the Coefficient of Performance for the heat pump so I could calculate the ideal cutover temperature for the furnace to heat pump transition. It was costing me more to use the heat pump than to use the furnace since the set point for conversion was too low. I would be glad to have my old very quiet Trane unit back with limited technology. The highlight is that the compressor is whisper quiet but that is outside while it is noisy inside at the ducts.

Good unit, bad noise

Tubes coming out of heat pump vibrate, which vibrates the house producing loud noise. It's embarrassing when guests come over.
Low utility cost high comfort

Unit is near my bedroom window with no noise intrusion. Warm comfort in winter, cool and low humidity in summer.
