Carrier Helps Build Stronger Communities Through Longstanding Habitat for Humanity Collaboration
Carrier’s more than three-decade collaboration with Habitat for Humanity reflects its purpose, enhancing the lives we live and the world we share, by helping strengthen the communities where Carrier lives, works and operates.
More recently, Carrier focused on its newer initiative with Habitat for Humanity International to help construct energy-efficient, resilient housing through its support of the Habitat Strong program.
Carrier’s donation enhances sustainable construction practices and enables in-person training on resilience strategies for builders. The program is designed to promote the building of fortified homes that conserve energy and natural resources, mitigate against natural events and provide healthier indoor air for Habitat homeowners.
As part of the campaign, Carrier employees have volunteered to help construct Habitat homes and fences, with some giving their time to help operationally at Habitat ReStores. Carrier also plans to donate energy-efficient HVAC systems and Carrier Smart Thermostats to many of the Habitat locations where employees are volunteering.
“Our collaboration with Habitat for Humanity International brings our purpose to life in communities where resilient, energy-efficient housing is needed,” said Ashley Barrie, Carrier, Executive Director, CSR. “Together, we’re helping educate on the importance of building stronger, more sustainable homes that can improve comfort and safety for Habitat families.”
Carrier’s collaboration with Habitat extends beyond building energy-efficient housing, and recently, a Carrier team in Japan celebrated the completion of a multi-year project assisting with facility updates at a children’s home in Chigasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture. Carrier employees volunteered across successive phases of development, including clearing and preparing the land, constructing a brick oven and camping area and planting trees, fostering interaction among young people and encouraging broader community engagement.
This year, Carrier also marked Habitat for Humanity’s 50th anniversary by helping build homes in Atlanta at The Carter Work Project. Carrier employees volunteered their time alongside distributor partners, helping build 24 single-family homes and town homes over five days.
