What is Decarbonization?
Decarbonization is the process of reducing or eliminating the use of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases (GHG) from being released into the atmosphere, in order to ultimately protect our environments, planet and the world we share. With buildings accounting for about 40% of energy-related carbon emissions, jurisdictions have increasingly focused on reducing building greenhouse gas emissions. Most companies want to act quickly to meet building performance standards but determining where to start, what steps are needed and how to properly invest can prove difficult. London's Gatwick Airport
Carrier is driving commercial HVAC decarbonization through a comprehensive suite of intelligent, energy-efficient solutions designed to reduce emissions and optimize building performance. As part of its commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2050, Carrier is investing in advanced technologies such as high-efficiency chillers, heat pumps, and digitally-enabled systems.
Carrier has contributed to Gatwick Airport’s decarbonization efforts in the UK by installing its ultra-low Global Warming Potential (GWP) AquaForce® 30XAV chiller, which uses the PUREtec® HFO R-1234ze refrigerant. This installation, the first of its kind in the UK, supports Gatwick’s environmental goals by significantly reducing carbon emissions and energy consumption. Carrier’s AquaForce 30XAV with Greenspeed® Intelligence was selected by Gatwick Airport Ltd as a solution to help meet the airport’s strict environmental policy, set out in its Decade of Change vision and Cooling Strategy beyond 2020.
