How Will You Know if It’s Time to Replace Your Oil Furnace?

Frequent service calls and/or expensive repair bills

Frequent service calls are an indication that the furnace is breaking down more often. In fact, furnaces tend to have more breakdowns in the last years of their lives. Also, having to wait for replacement parts indicates difficulty sourcing for a furnace of its age.

Uneven temperatures and/or inability to keep the thermostat’s temperature setting

If you’re having trouble keeping your home or individual rooms at the right temperature, your furnace is not properly distributing the warm air. A common sign that the furnace is struggling is when some rooms are much colder than others.

New or increased noises

New or strange noises are clear signs that something is wrong with your furnace. Banging, popping, whistling, squealing, rattling, or the blower running excessively are all indications that your furnace is struggling and may need to be replaced.

Increase in energy bills

Furnaces can lose energy efficiency as they get older, especially if they haven’t had regular maintenance. When your furnace takes longer to heat your home, it burns more fuel to stay on longer.
