Carrier WeatherMaster® 48QE Hybrid Heat Rooftop Units Recognized as Product of the Year by Consulting-Specifying Engineer Magazine

Carrier’s new line of hybrid heat light commercial rooftop units has been named one of the best new products of 2026 by Consulting-Specifying Engineer magazine. The WeatherMaster® 48QE received the silver award in the HVAC category for the publication’s annual reader’s choice contest. The 2026 Product of the Year awards were voted on by Consulting-Specifying Engineer readers and features new products in HVAC, Fire/Life Safety, Electrical and Plumbing Systems engineering markets.

The 48QE rooftop offers a heat pump compression system with auxiliary gas heat exchangers and can operate as a heat pump, hybrid heat gas unit or as a gas heat. The hybrid system automatically selects an appropriate operating mode based on outdoor temperature, including full heat pump, full gas heat or a combination of both, offering flexible operation to support occupant comfort across a range of climates. It also features EcoBlue™ fan technology, a direct-drive indoor fan system that uses a vane axial fan and electronically commutated motor. The design supports easier installation, faster servicing and more reliability compared to traditional belt-driven systems, with 75% fewer moving parts and up to 40% less energy use under certain operating conditions. 

Available from 3-25 nominal tons, the 48QE is designed to provide a cost-effective retrofit option for light commercial applications by fitting onto existing curbs and ductwork, often with minimal modifications depending on the installation.
