Energy Efficiency Ratio 2 (EER2)

Energy Efficiency Ratio 2 (EER2) expresses the cooling capacity a unit offers for a specific amount of energy used in a specific testing climate:
  • 95° Fahrenheit outdoor temperature
  • 80° Fahrenheit indoor temperature
  • 50 percent relative humidity

This standardized rating is important to know because it helps allow you to compare the efficiency of different cooling products.

EER is calculated by dividing the cooling output of an air conditioning or heat pump unit (in BTU) with the energy usage (in watt hours).
