Carrier to be Featured in 2016 Greenbuild KB Home ProjeKt™

WASHINGTON, D.C. -

Carrier’s Zero Net Energy home comfort system will be showcased in the Greenbuild KB Home ProjeKt™ demonstration home at the 2016 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in Los Angeles, and will be available for in-person discovery tours for conference attendees on Wednesday, Oct. 5 and Thursday, Oct. 6.  The home will also be available nationwide via the online virtual tour beginning Oct. 5. Carrier, a world leader in high-technology heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

The Greenbuild KB Home ProjeKt, presented by Hanley Wood in partnership with KB Home, BUILDER Magazine, KTGY Architecture + Planning, and the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute and Virginia Tech, is designed to serve as an unprecedented time-travel look ahead to the years 2020 and 2050 as a way to bring new perspective and strategic scenario-planning opportunities to builders and consumers alike. Since our founder invented modern air conditioning more than a century ago, Carrier has been on the forefront of innovation as it relates to home comfort and, in recent years, smart home technology.

The display at the 2016 Greenbuild Conference and Expo includes vignettes that feature assemblies and systems, home tours, interactive educational features and a digital wall display. For Carrier, the home will showcase innovative home comfort solutions that maximize comfort and a healthy home environment and utilize technology to connect the homeowner to their home’s most important appliances. The home is designed to be sustainable, resilient, and achieve LEED and National Green Building Standard certifications for energy efficiency today, net-zero energy per California’s 2020 goals, and features super materials and innovations for 2050. Wellness, safety and health features can be found throughout the home -- from cooking equipment which prevents nutrient loss during food preparation to lighting optimized for circadian rhythms and a Carrier air purifier that can capture and kill indoor allergens, pollutants and pathogens. Technology also plays a key role in the home, featuring automation systems to achieve the ultimate smart home with unprecedented levels of convenience, efficiency, awareness and wellness, including the Carrier® Côr™  thermostat that can save homeowners an average of 20 percent* on their heating and cooling costs.

At the KB Home booth, Carrier will be showcasing its Performance Series Heat Pump, Gas Furnace, Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) and its air purifier system as well as the Carrier Côr thermostat. The ERV provides a mechanism to filter fresh indoor air into a tightly sealed indoor envelope while the air purifier captures and kills common pathogens that contribute to indoor air pollution. The Côr thermostat provides homeowners with remote access to their home comfort system as it leverages Carrier’s singular HVAC knowledge to save homeowners on their heating and cooling cost.

“Carrier has long been on the vanguard of developing and deploying heating and cooling solutions that are among the most efficient in our industry, and we are pleased to have this tremendous opportunity to showcase how we are working closely with a valued customer to remain at the very forefront of sustainability,” said Matthew Pine, vice president, marketing, Carrier Residential. “California has been a leader in sustainability and we anticipate similar net-zero energy programs to spread to other parts of the country. When it does, Carrier will be well-positioned to provide home comfort solutions that meet the expectations of homeowners and state governments.”
