Carrier’s OptiCleanTM Wins UK Air Conditioning Innovation Award
LEATHERHEAD, UK -
Award-winning product to launch in Europe in 2021
The OptiClean™ Dual-Mode Air Scrubber & Negative Air Machine, Carrier’s pioneering solution to help provide healthier indoor air, has been crowned Air Conditioning Innovation of the Year in the RAC Cooling Industry Awards, one of the UK’s top building technology awards.
The recognition follows the OptiClean unit being named one of TIME's 100 Best Inventions of 2020. The product, currently available in North America and Asia, is expected to launch in Europe this year. Carrier is part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), a leading global provider of healthy, safe and sustainable building and cold chain solutions.
“During a very difficult year under the pandemic, this winning product stepped up with a very short turn-around to provide an essential solution for the hospital sector in particular,” said the independent judging panel of RAC’s Cooling Industry Awards.
Development of the unit was fast-tracked in early 2020 for use in infectious isolation rooms in hospitals. The OptiClean product is now also being used in public and commercial buildings to reduce contaminants in the air as part of an overall mitigation strategy including social distancing, use of face coverings and other recommendations of public health experts.
As an air scrubber, the OptiClean unit can improve the indoor air quality of classrooms, restaurants, dental offices, commercial buildings and more, by pulling in air, scrubbing it using a HEPA filter, and then exhausting cleaner air back into the room. It has a footprint of less than three square feet and can plug into a standard wall outlet.
“We are delighted that our OptiClean equipment has received this independent recognition from our peers in the industry,” said David Dunn, managing director for Carrier UK Sales. “As well as reducing airborne pathogens using HEPA filtration, it helps maintain high quality indoor air by removing dust particles, micro-fibres and contaminants to maintain a cleaner, healthier indoor environment. It has particular application in high traffic areas, such as retail check-outs, walk-ways, reception areas, offices and hospitality venues.”
The OptiClean Dual Mode Air Scrubber & Negative Air Machine is one of a number of solutions offered through Carrier's Healthy Buildings Program, a suite of advanced solutions to help deliver healthier, safer, more efficient and productive indoor environments.
