Reed Boardall Chooses All-New Carrier Transicold Vector S15 To Lower Its Carbon Footprint and Total Cost of Ownership

WARRINGTON, England -

Reed Boardall has turned to Carrier Transicold to help reduce the carbon emissions output and fuel consumption of its trailer fleet. The Yorkshire-based temperature-controlled distributor has taken delivery of 60 Vector® S15 units provided by Dawsongroup Truck & Trailer – becoming the first UK customer for this all-new mono-temperature product – as well as 20 flagship Vector HE 19 multi-temperature systems supplied by Asset Alliance Group. The 80 new units collectively could save more than 800 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions a year through reduced fuel burn. Carrier Transicold is a part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions.

The new mono-temperature Carrier Transicold Vector S15 and multi-temperature Vector HE 19 systems, mounted to 13.6-metre single and double deck trailers respectively, were selected by Reed Boardall after a comprehensive trial that involved precisely evaluating their levels of fuel economy and cooling efficiency.

“Increasing sustainability is a core goal for us, but it is imperative that any new refrigeration products we introduce into the fleet also deliver the optimum operational performance,” said Stevland Town, Managing Director of Reed Boardall’s transport division. “Detailed analysis of the new Carrier Transicold Vector S15 in particular showed outstanding potential to greatly reduce our carbon footprint and help us reach our sustainability goals. We’re excited to see how those rewards pan out over the coming years.”

Carrier Transicold’s new semi-electric Vector S15 delivers high standards of performance, with a multi-speed engine design that offers 15 kW of cooling capacity, while significantly reducing fuel consumption. At 700 kg, it is the lightest trailer unit in its segment, as well as one of the quietest in the Carrier Transicold Vector range. The Vector S15’s open architecture and ease of access also make maintenance more convenient, which helps to keep workshop downtime to a minimum.

The company’s Vector HE 19 units combine Carrier Transicold’s E-Drive all-electric technology with its own multi-speed engine design, delivering up to 30% fuel savings when compared to the previous generation Vector 1950 units they are replacing, providing a significant sustainability advantage. The system’s fully hermetic scroll compressor and economiser also unlock a 40% increase in refrigeration capacity during pull-down, as well as a 50% reduction in refrigerant escape, another factor in reducing CO2 emissions.

“It is always rewarding to see the operational and sustainability benefits our technology can unlock,” said Scott Dargan, Managing Director UK & Northern Europe, Carrier Transicold. “We stand by the performance of each Vector unit and what the solution can deliver for customers looking to lower the carbon footprint of their fleets.”

Based on a dedicated 55-acre site operation in Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire, Reed Boardall is one of the largest temperature-controlled food distribution businesses in the UK. With a fleet of 200 vehicles operating 24 hours a day, year-round, it delivers 12,000 pallets of frozen food daily from manufacturers across Britain, Europe and UK supermarkets.

The customer’s latest arrivals are expected to cover 120,000 kilometres annually across the next six years. Both new systems will contribute to Carrier’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goal of helping customers reduce their carbon footprint by more than one gigaton by 2030.
