Freshlinc Accelerates Its Sustainability Goals with Carrier Transicold Vector and Eco-Drive Units

WARRINGTON, England -

Spalding-based Freshlinc has taken delivery of 60 Carrier Transicold Vector®-equipped temperature-controlled trailers, alongside two new tractor units mounted with Eco-Drive systems, as part of the company’s ambition to reduce the carbon footprint of its commercial vehicle fleet. Carrier Transicold is a part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions.

Freshlinc is a long-time Carrier Transicold customer and 75% of its trailer fleet is cooled by Carrier. The 40 new multi-temperature Vector HE 19 and 20 mono-temperature Vector 1550 systems are fitted to 13.6-metre Gray & Adams trailers. The new Eco-Drive power modules – a first for the business – power the refrigeration units via the truck’s engine and help reduce fuel usage and deliver emissions savings.

“Achieving Net Zero is a key pillar of Freshlinc’s business plan, and we see Carrier Transicold as a vital partner in helping us reach that goal,” said Andrew Marchant, Fleet Director, Freshlinc. “These products mark the next step in our sustainability journey and one that we hope will help continue to steer us toward a greener future.”

The Vector HE 19 MT combines Carrier Transicold’s E-Drive all-electric technology with an all-new multi-speed engine design to cut fuel consumption by up to 30%, while operating 3 dB(A) quieter when compared to the previous generation Vector 1950 MT units.

Also using the electric architecture of Carrier Transicold’s E-Drive technology, the Vector 1550 delivers a potent combination of power and efficiency, providing exceptional pull-down speeds and accurate set-point control, essential for Freshlinc’s frozen or chilled food deliveries.

Both Vector products integrate seamlessly with Carrier Transicold’s innovative Eco-Drive power module. Built into the chassis of the tractor unit, it uses a hydraulic pump connected to the truck engine’s power take-off to drive a generator capable of delivering the electrical power required to run any of Freshlinc’s Carrier-cooled trailer units. This power is delivered independent of the truck’s engine speed, ensuring 100% refrigeration capacity even when the vehicle is idling.

“We’re delighted that Freshlinc sees Carrier’s cutting-edge technology as the ideal solution for reducing its fleet’s carbon footprint, and these units will deliver critical fuel and emissions savings,” said Martin Parker, Key Account Manager, Carrier Transicold UK.

These units are all backed by Carrier Transicold’s comprehensive BluEdge fixed-cost full-service maintenance package, which includes annual temperature control testing and certification, full regulatory checks and access to the company’s oneCALL 24/7 incident management service.

Freshlinc’s new assets help contribute to Carrier’s Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) goal to reduce its customers’ carbon footprint by more than one gigaton by 2030.
