Carrier Transicold Expands Patented A2L Safety-by-Design Approach to Vector HE 17

New technical white paper supports safe deployment of low-global warming potential A2L refrigerants across the refrigerated transport industry

Carrier Transicold will introduce its patented two-stage A2L safety system on the Vector® HE 17 at IAA Transportation in Hannover, Germany. Carrier Transicold is a part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions.

Many low-GWP refrigerants belong to the A2L class, offering a significantly lower climate impact while requiring engineering safeguards to address mild flammability characteristics. Carrier Transicold has developed a safety-by-design approach to A2L adoption that combines engineered safeguards, rigorous manufacturing controls, leak detection and a patented two-stage safety response to help manage risk and support regulatory compliance.

Using this approach and building on the A2L-ready Vector® HE 19, Carrier Transicold is extending its low-GWP refrigeration portfolio with the Vector HE 17. The unit is engineered to run on R454A, an A2L refrigerant with a GWP of 239, up to 89% lower than the industry-standard R452A (GWP 2,140).

The new A2L-ready Vector HE 17 unit is designed to retain refrigerant in the system, minimizing any potential release without compromising reliability or energy efficiency. The patented two-stage safety response adds an additional layer of protection. At the first sign of a leak, the system triggers an alarm and forced-air circulation. If needed, it can automatically isolate and move refrigerant away from the cargo area, helping protect people, cargo and the environment.
