SM Logistic Relies on Carrier Transicold Vector™ 1550 Units
ANDRYCHOW, Poland, March xx 2014 – SM Logistic Sp. z o.o., a key player in Poland's temperature controlled transport industry, has selected 14 Carrier Transicold Vector™ 1550 units with E-Drive™ technology for its fleet of new trailers. Carrier Transicold helps improve global transport and shipping temperature control with a complete line of equipment for refrigerated trucks, trailers and containers and is part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
Delivering temperature controlled goods to a large network of supermarkets in Poland, SM Logistic needed a refrigeration unit they could rely on at any time to deliver cargo in optimum condition. Thanks to Carrier's patented E-Drive™ all-electric technology, mechanical transmissions found in belt-driven systems are removed and a generator transforms engine power into electricity. Vector 1550 units have a limited number of serviceable parts from the refrigeration cycle, like the clutch and belts, substantially reducing the risk of failure and associated downtime.
"We decided to buy the Vector units because of the design," said Zdzisław Potempa, president of the board, SM Logistic. "There is less complexity and fewer components to maintain."
In addition to having fewer moving parts, the Vector 1550 is one of the lightest units available on the market, at just 739 kg, offering maximum payload to the customer and operating with low noise emissions, which makes it ideal for urban applications and ensures excellent driver comfort. "Vector units are quiet. The drivers and the people around them really appreciate it," Potempa said.
The Vector 1550 unit also answers several refrigeration challenges. SM Logistic needs strong cold chain performance to maintain the quality of goods transported in all conditions, such as multiple door openings or -30°C ambient temperature.
Equipped with an economizer, the Vector 1550 unit reaches the desired set point up to 25 percent faster compared to conventional technology, enabling fast temperature recovery in a distribution application. The E-Drive all-electric technology also provides a constant heating capacity of 8,800 Watts, to help resist to the harsh winter weather in Poland.
The economizer technology also enables to unit to demonstrate low fuel consumption levels. The optimized energy consumption of the Vector 1550 unit is achieved by a patented combination of a hermetic compressor with an economizer, enabling the use of a 1.5-litre diesel engine. "We have been testing the refrigeration units for a few months. We are collecting data and the first results show that the fuel consumption is as low as we expected," said Potempa.
Carrier Transicold Poland offers an extensive service network across Europe, to help ensure continuity of the units in operation for SM Logistic. "The cold chain can't be interrupted. The Carrier Transicold network ensures excellent service around Europe. It is very important to us," said Potempa.
