Carrier Transicold Equips STG Transport Company’s First Natural Gas-Engine Truck with Engineless Unit

RUEIL-MALMAISON, France -

Société des Transports Gautier (STG), a specialist in temperature-controlled transport across Europe, has selected Carrier Transicold to equip its first natural gas-engine truck with a multi-temperature engineless refrigeration unit. Carrier Transicold, which operates in France as Carrier Transicold France, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Combining an engineless cooling system with a natural gas-engine truck allows STG to significantly lower emission levels and reduce its overall impact on the environment.

“When it comes to sustainability, STG Group is committed to constantly looking for new and innovative solutions to reduce polluting emissions,” said Jean-Yves Gautier, president, STG. “Carrier Transicold supports us in this approach. Their new engineless range of refrigeration units is an excellent fit with our new natural gas-engine truck.”

The Carrier Transicold multi-temperature engineless refrigeration unit features a hermetically sealed, electrically driven scroll compressor, thus eliminating belts and shaft seals, allowing for fewer leaks and requiring little maintenance. The unit is powered by an ECO-DRIVE GenSet unit, which is driven by a hydro pump connected to the truck’s power take-off (PTO) motor. The hydraulic system drives a generator that delivers electrical power to the Carrier Transicold unit.

The engineless unit for trucks, available in single and multi-temperature versions, consistently provides a cooling capacity of up to 18 kilowatts (0°C/30°C) even when the truck is idling. Additionally, the fuel consumption of trucks equipped with the new unit is measurably lower than those using refrigeration units that require their own engine. This engineless technology is compatible with natural gas and conventional diesel truck engines.
