Carrier Transicold Introduces SimplyFRESH to Protect Perishables with Atmosphere Control on Shorter Refrigerated Container Voyages

SINGAPORE -

Carrier Transicold has introduced SimplyFRESH™, a passive controlled atmosphere (CA) system designed to help protect perishable cargo on shorter refrigerated container voyages, providing a cost-efficient option when full active atmosphere control is not required. Carrier Transicold is part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), a global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions.

“Not every perishable shipment needs a full active CA system. For shorter voyages, customers need reliable carbon dioxide (CO2) control, a clear record of conditions and a cost-effective solution,” said Rob Veltman, Associate Director, Product Management and Global Postharvest Commercial Lead, Carrier Transicold. “SimplyFRESH was designed for that use case, giving operators the flexibility to match controlled-atmosphere technology to the cargo and voyage rather than applying the same solution to every shipment.”

Developed for refrigerated containers on voyages of fewer than 20 days, SimplyFRESH controls CO2 levels to protect perishable cargo. It complements, rather than replaces, Carrier Transicold’s EverFRESH® active CA system, which supports extended voyages of up to five weeks. SimplyFRESH is particularly suited for climacteric produce, such as mangoes, bananas and avocados. It can also support shorter-route applications for non-ripening fruits such as blueberries, cherries and grapes, depending on the atmosphere requirements and shipment profile.

Sensors continuously monitor CO2 and oxygen (O2) inside the container. Operators set a CO2 setpoint between 1% and 19%. When CO2 rises above the selected range, the system introduces outside air through the fresh-air valve and releases excess pressure, maintaining CO2 levels within ±0.2% of the setpoint.

Key SimplyFRESH capabilities include:

  • Cargo protection: An O2 safety override automatically opens the fresh air valve when O2 falls below 3%, helping protect cargo from anaerobic damage.
  • Fresh air control: The system introduces fresh air only when CO2 levels require it, limiting the amount of outside heat entering the container, which can reduce cooling demand and help limit coil icing.
  • Equipment compatibility: SimplyFRESH works with PrimeLINE® and OptimaLINE™ units equipped with the Micro-Link® 5 controller.

The SimplyFRESH system connects to Carrier Transicold’s Lynx™ Fleet telematics platform. It logs CO2, O2 and relative humidity throughout the journey and streams the data to the platform for real-time monitoring and voyage reporting.

SimplyFRESH is planned for commercial availability in 2027 as both a factory-installed option on new units and a retrofit for compatible units already in service. This gives shipping lines the flexibility to extend CA capability across their existing fleets without ordering new containers. Aftermarket installation will be available worldwide.

Carrier Transicold Container Refrigeration will showcase SimplyFRESH at Intermodal Europe 2026 at the Rotterdam Ahoy in the Netherlands, Nov. 10-12, 2026. Visit Booth C50 to get a first look at the solution.
