New Carrier White Paper Features Ways to Control Energy Demand

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -

The ability to manage energy consumption and cost has become increasingly important in recent years. As those demands continue to surge, so do the concerns of building owners and facility managers facing the negative effects that growing demand has on utilities. In Carrier’s latest white paper, “Energy Demand System: Automated Energy Management for Rooftop Units,” readers can explore the application of a new technology that enables facilities such as schools, office buildings and supermarkets to control their energy demand. Carrier, the world’s leader in high-technology heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions, is a part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

The paper, available free at www.commercial.carrier.com, introduces Carrier’s energy demand system that uses Swarm Energy Management™ technology by REGEN Energy. This technology can be integrated into the Carrier WeatherMaker®, WeatherMaster® and WeatherExpert™ product lines, dramatically reducing peak electrical usage when system load controllers are installed as accessories to these rooftop units in commercial and industrial properties. The energy demand system creates a network of rooftop units that communicate wirelessly with one another to control operation and energy consumption.

“Our energy demand system offers a unique solution for building owners to manage their energy usage,” said Greg Alcorn, vice president, commercial sales and marketing, Carrier. “This white paper examines the key features of the system and outlines how facility managers can benefit from the ability to wirelessly control their energy demand.

“Carrier white papers build on our legacy of innovation and training by examining the issues that are shaping the industry. As HVAC equipment typically accounts for as much as 40 percent of a facility’s energy use, it’s vital that we are able to offer our customers solutions that make sense and address the ever-increasing need to manage energy consumption,” Alcorn said.
