Dansk Cater Expands Cold Chain Electrification with Carrier Transicold for Low-Emission Food Distribution
PADBORG, Denmark -
Dansk Cater, a leading Danish foodservice wholesaler, is scaling a proven model for electric cold chain distribution, deploying more than 40 Syberia electric refrigeration units from Carrier Transicold by summer 2026. The units will be integrated across the company’s growing electric truck fleet, supporting Dansk Cater’s long-term strategy to reduce emissions while maintaining reliable food distribution. Carrier Transicold is a part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions.
“Electric vehicles are no longer just a sustainability initiative, they have become a reliable operational solution,” said Allan Hvidberg, Transport Manager at AB Catering Aarhus, division of Dansk Cater. “Carrier Transicold’s electric refrigeration systems offer an effective way to lower emissions and ensure dependable, energy-efficient cold chain solutions. These systems help maintain proper temperatures for the safe delivery of essential foods.”
Dansk Cater’s catering divisions across Denmark began their electrification journey in 2022 with the introduction of the company’s first fully electric refrigerated truck, equipped with Carrier Transicold’s Syberia electric refrigeration unit.
The Carrier Transicold Syberia units utilise the company’s Eco-Drive power module to draw power directly from the truck’s Euro VI diesel engine power take-off. By using a hydraulic pump to drive a generator, the system delivers electrical power capable of providing 100% refrigeration capacity for both single and multi-temperature operation, even at standard idle speed. The Syberia also offers rapid temperature pull-down capability and operates at a PIEK-compliant level below 60 dB(A), making them ideal for Dansk Cater’s urban delivery routes.
With fixed, planned routes and a strong focus on urban distribution, Dansk Cater is progressively integrating electric vehicles into its daily operations. Based on internal operational data, the technology has proven particularly well suited to stop-and-go city distribution, supporting stable energy consumption, reduced noise levels and high vehicle availability.
“Lower noise has made a noticeable difference for our drivers and for the local communities we serve,” Hvidberg said. “We have observed lower routine maintenance requirements and consistently high uptime, which are important for our daily operations.”
Close collaboration between Dansk Cater and Carrier Transicold has supported the deployment process. Early planning, route simulation and technical coordination were carried out to help align the vehicles and refrigeration systems with operational requirements prior to entering service.
“Dansk Cater demonstrates how electric refrigeration can be integrated into food distribution operations while maintaining operational performance under defined conditions,” said Jan Skjoldby, Managing Director, Carrier Transicold Scandinavia. “Their willingness to test and scale electric solutions is helping generate valuable operational insight that supports the continued development of cold chain technologies.”
Dansk Cater is emerging as one of Denmark’s most experienced operators of electric refrigerated transport in the Danish foodservice distribution sector. The initiative positions the company at the forefront of the broader industry transition, where electrification, efficiency and reliability converge to define the future of cold chain logistics.
