Creed Foodservice Welcomes UK’s First Carrier Transicold Xarios 8 Multi-Temperature Units

WARRINGTON, England -

Family-owned national foodservice wholesaler Creed Foodservice has taken delivery of three 12-tonne rigid trucks fitted with the UK’s first Carrier Transicold Xarios® 8 multi-temperature (MT) units, the company’s powerful new direct drive systems that merge high cooling capacity with reduced fuel costs and lower emissions. Carrier Transicold is a part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), the leading global provider of healthy, safe, sustainable and intelligent building and cold chain solutions.

The Carrier Transicold Xarios 8 MT units are fitted to DAF LF rigids supplied on a contract hire agreement with Petit Forestier, which are mounted with specialised bodies provided by Gray & Adams. The new Xarios 8 MT is the most powerful direct drive unit the company has ever built. Featuring an all-new underlying architecture, the lightweight system offers 55% more cooling capacity and 20% more heating capacity than previous models.

“In the years we have been working with Carrier the team has developed a deep understanding of both our operational requirements and importantly our sustainability goals,” said Patrick Nayler, General Manager, Creed Foodservice. “We’re confident the powerful solution provided by the new Xarios 8 MT units will unlock long-term efficiency and sustainability gains, helping to futureproof against potential emissions regulations while also cutting fuel costs today.”

While other models in the range are traditionally specified for light commercial vehicles, the increased power of the new Xarios 8 MT now allows small to medium-sized trucks to benefit from the direct drive system. This removes the need for a standalone diesel engine and creates a lightweight, low-noise solution ideal for vehicles operating in urban areas.

The Xarios 8 MT unit helps customers save on fuel and operational maintenance costs, while improving sustainability through the reduction of overall fleet emissions. In addition, the use of innovative microchannel heat exchanger condenser technology results in a 40% decrease in Global Warming Potential (GWP) related to refrigerant usage versus equivalent diesel-powered systems. The innovative Xarios 8 MT units support Carrier’s 2030 Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) goal to reduce its customers’ carbon footprint by more than one gigaton.

“Sustainability should be top of every company’s agenda, and in Carrier’s time working alongside Creed we’ve seen that our environmental aims are closely aligned,” added Tony Biggs, Key Account Manager, Carrier Transicold UK. “The slim, lightweight design of the Xarios 8 MT system will help Creed yield vital fuel and payload capacity gains. Boasting a host of innovative technology, from long-life evaporators to a brushless condenser fan, operators will also benefit from increased durability, improved maintenance time and reduced costs.”

Creed’s new vehicles will operate five days a week, completing between eight to 15 deliveries a day both in and around central London and down to the Kent coast. They are based at Creed’s High Wycombe depot, with the company projecting that they will cover around 20,000km annually.

Founded in 1972, and celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, Creed Foodservice delivers ambient, fresh and frozen produce and non-food catering products nationwide, to customers across the care, education, destination leisure and hospitality sectors.
