Very Shady HVAC Company
The coil in my Carrier outside unit (less than 5 years old) had a leak and I was advised by Carrier to call one of their local experts so I picked C\&J. Carrier gave me a $250 voucher to have them come out and diagnose the problem. They came out and found the leak. They followed up with an email that included a total price of $2,700 to replace the coil (with part covered under warranty). They said it was for labor, refrigerant and "miscellaneous" materials so I asked them for a breakdown of the estimate with a cost for each. That is when the trouble began with C\&J. I just wanted to know the details before I proceed forward and spend that kind of money. I didn't think that was an unreasonable request. I never heard back so I tried calling their office multiple times but it went right to voicemail. They never responded to my voice messages or email requests. My calls were going directly to voicemail so I had to use my wife's phone just to get through (I suspect they blocked my number). Ryan Oefinger then sent an email telling me they didn't want to do business with me or get involved with me since I had a warranty case open with Carrier. Ryan instructed me to go elsewhere and use a different company. I totally understand that is their right as a private business to refuse my as a customer but they got all bent out shape when I asked for a detailed estimate. I can only suspect they were trying to hide something. The worst part is they were quick to take my $250 voucher from Carrier but gave me nothing in return. I ended up calling another HVAC company and they were able to repair the copper line and top it off with freon for $1,200. I guess it all worked out in the end for me. Not only did I save a lot of money by going with someone else who was honest, but I also saved Carrier a lot of money by not having to provide the new coil free of charge (I hear is a $2,500 part) as recommended by C\&J. After this experience, I wouldn't let C\&J mow my lawn even if it was for free!
