The latest version of Carrier Transicold’s Vector® High Efficiency (HE) 19, which features a low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant to significantly reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Truck & Trailer Welt Award in the CoolChamp category, recognizing innovations that advance sustainability and performance in the transport sector. Carrier Transicold is part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions.
The Vector HE 19 low CO₂ system trailer refrigeration unit combines a low GWP refrigerant (<250) with biodiesel, including B100 or hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO). This dual innovation enables operators to reduce their carbon footprint by a minimum of 73% per unit over a year, while maintaining cooling performance, reliability and operational flexibility of traditional systems.
“This award reflects our commitment to helping customers achieve meaningful sustainability gains without sacrificing performance,” said Jean-Michel Vadecard, Product Director for Truck Trailer International at Carrier Transicold. “The Vector HE 19 low CO₂ system combines the engineering excellence and sustainability focus they expect from Carrier Transicold, while delivering real-world benefits such as significantly lower emissions while maintaining reliability and performance.”
The B100 biofuel, typically derived from recycled vegetable oils, animal fats or cooking oils, alone reduces the carbon emissions by between 60% and 91%, depending on the type of B100 used, compared with a standard diesel unit. The unit is also compatible with hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) biofuel, which reduces carbon emissions by 80% compared with a regular diesel-powered unit.
The innovative system integrates advanced hardware, software and safety features, including leak detection and compliance with pressure equipment directives. It is already in use with customers and has been praised for its impact and ease of deployment.
