Eurexpo, Lyon, France – Stand 4J195

Carrier Transicold unveiled the latest version of the Vector HE 19 refrigeration system, PIEK certified and multi-temperature, during its world premiere at Solutrans. The new trailer refrigeration unit is optimized to reduce maintenance and features an up to 10%* reduction in weight, up to a 19%* reduction in energy consumption and up to 30%* reduction in fuel consumption, which is the equivalent of 5.4 tonnes less carbon dioxide emissions per year. Carrier Transicold is part of Carrier, a leading global provider of innovative heating, ventilating, air conditioning (HVAC) refrigeration, fire, security and building automation technologies.

Notably, the standard Vector HE 19 presented a noise emission reduction of less than three decibels* for the single or multi-temperature standard versions, and the new unit has obtained PIEK certification (single and multi-temperature versions), which means it does not surpass 60 decibels, the equivalent of normal conversation. PIEK standards were introduced in the Netherlands in 2003 in response to growing concerns from local governments and supermarkets to reduce noise levels for night deliveries between 10:30 p.m. and 7 a.m. The standards have been adopted in many European cities.

The Vector HE 19 features E-DriveTM all-electric technology, which eliminates  the mechanical transmissions found in belt-driven cooling systems, transforming the power of the engine into electricity using a generator. Carrier Transicold has further consolidated its E-Drive™ technology by adding a new scroll compressor. It is totally sealed and has just one moving part, compared with six previously, reducing the risk of refrigerant leaks and lowering energy consumption.

"To create the Vector HE 19, we conducted nearly 100,000 hours of tests. Pilot units have been installed on some of our customers' trailers, and they have been highly satisfied. With this new version, we have retained all the precision on which the advantages of our system are built, while improving its efficiency and reducing our customers' costs," says Bruno Chakiachvili, trailer product manager at Carrier Transicold. “The PIEK certification meets the growing expectations and demand of transport companies looking for sustainable solutions and flexibility in urban areas in terms of operational time.”

Another new feature incorporated in the system is the "up flow" concept, which facilitates the flow of air from the front to the top, thereby reducing noise and energy consumption. The new unit also has an air flow management system based on the Coanda effect, which means the air adheres closely to the roof in order to go as far as possible to the rear of the trailer in order to optimise interior ventilation and ensures precise control of the cold chain. Equipped with the APX™ control system, which uses Controller Area Network (CAN) technology, this new version provides multi-speed motor control and manages the actuators and sensors to optimise the regulation of the flow and temperature of the refrigerant.

In terms of maintenance, the operating time between oil changes has doubled from 1,500 hours to 3,000 hours*. Finally, to ensure the very best user experience, Carrier Transicold has incorporated a large graphic display in the Vector HE 19, for the first time in Europe. With these innovations, operators now benefit from a lower total cost of ownership and operating costs, while reducing the impact on the environment.

The new Vector HE 19 in single and multi-temperature versions complements Carrier Transicold’s CITY refrigeration units range, all PIEK certified, including:

  • Vector® 1950 MT City and Vector 1550 City, featuring the E-DriveTM all-electric system for trailers
  • Supra® 1250 City
  • Supra® CNG

The PIEK-certified Vector HE 19 in its multi-temperature version is on display at Solutrans 2019, from Nov. 19 to 23, in Lyon on Carrier Transicold’s stand 4J195.
