Carrier Transicold will spotlight [R]eCool, an electric retrofit solution for Vector® refrigeration units, at Solutrans 2025, held Nov. 18-22 at Lyon EUREXPO. Unveiled in 2023 as one of the transport refrigeration industry’s first engineless retrofit cooling solutions, [R]eCool enables operators to convert diesel-powered refrigerated units on semi-trailers to hybrid or fully electric operation, substantially reducing diesel emissions, lowering fuel expenditures and minimizing noise while enhancing the value of their existing fleets. Carrier Transicold is part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions.
“This is a pivotal milestone in the journey toward fully electric refrigerated transport,” said Jean-Michel Vadecard, Product Director, Truck Trailer International, Carrier Transicold. “With more than two decades of expertise in E-Drive technology, we designed the [R]eCool system to empower fleet operators to easily electrify their existing fleet. It offers a 100% electric solution designed to meet the evolving demands of urban logistics while unlocking greater value from existing fleets.”
How [R]eCool is Reshaping Urban Refrigeration Transportation
- Flexible integration: [R]eCool will be available for new trailer installations and compatible with existing Vector units, allowing for straightforward retrofitting without chassis modifications. Carrier Transicold collaborated closely with leading bodybuilders to ensure system compatibility and ease of installation. As a result, typical installations can be completed in under a day.
- Battery-electric, engine-less operation: [R]eCool provides electric cooling on route. The system charges via a standard refrigerated unit three-phase standby socket when parked, while a high-capacity under-chassis battery powers the unit during transit.
- Urban-ready: The system is designed to comply with the strictest European urban environment regulations by eliminating diesel engine use at the point of delivery and reducing operating noise.
- Certified for safety and EMC: The system is certified to R100 (high-voltage safety) and R10 (electromagnetic compatibility) standards. It leverages Addvolt’s advanced power electronic technology, which has been validated under extreme conditions. The battery pack is expected to deliver a lifespan of more than 12 years, promoting long-term sustainable reuse in semi-trailers. Carrier acquired Addvolt earlier this year, reinforcing a commitment to electrification and innovation in sustainable transport refrigeration.
Attendees at Solutrans will have the unique opportunity to experience [R]eCool in action through live demonstrations at Carrier Transicold’s outdoor stand. These demonstrations will showcase how [R]eCool, when combined with Lynx Fleet, is advancing refrigerated transport by enabling real-time monitoring, predictive analytics and seamless integration with fleet operations.
