Gregory Distribution has selected 10 trailers fitted with Carrier Transicold Vector™ 1550 systems to help keep Britain’s sweet tooth satisfied, after acquiring the efficient units to support a contract with Mondelēz International to deliver Cadbury’s chocolate. Carrier Transicold, which operates in the UK as Carrier Transicold UK, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
The 10 mono-temperature Vector 1550 units, which are mounted to 15.6 meter Gray & Adams tri-axle longer semi-trailers (LSTs), will be based in Birmingham, transporting Cadbury’s chocolate around the nation. The new arrivals join a more than 2,000-strong fleet of commercial vehicle assets at Gregory Distribution.
“Gregory Distribution has enjoyed a long working relationship with Carrier Transicold UK, and we’re certain our new Vector 1550 units, combined with the LSTs, will provide the ideal mix of capacity, fuel efficiency, low maintenance and reliability for the Cadbury’s contract,” said Andy Price, technical support manager, Gregory Distribution.
Gregory Distribution can maximise its payload potential on the 15.6 meter LSTs as a result of the Vector 1550 unit’s cooling capacity of 14,995 Watts, with optimised fuel efficiency. This is achieved using a patented combination of a hermetic compressor with an economiser, enabling the use of a highly efficient 1.5 litre diesel engine. The economiser supplies up to a 40 per cent increase in refrigeration capacity during pull-down, before automatically reducing during the temperature regulation phase to save fuel – all while ensuring excellent cold chain protection.
The 10 Vector 1550 units were provided with a Carrier Transicold everCOLD™ repair and maintenance contract, helping to ensure that a nationwide network of service providers and mobile engineers will help keep Gregory Distribution’s units operating at maximum efficiency.
The Vector 1550 systems are built around Carrier Transicold’s patented E-Drive™ all-electric technology, which can reduce refrigerant leak rates by as much as 55 per cent versus conventional systems using standard technology, thereby significantly cutting CO2 emissions. The E-Drive technology also removes a number of serviceable parts from the unit, substantially reducing maintenance and downtime and helping to deliver precise temperature control of +/- 0.8 degrees Celsius.
Gregory Distribution, which will celebrate 100 years of trading in 2019, serves more than 400 customers based regionally, nationally and internationally.
