Overheating equipment, power outages and excessive moisture — all of these can result from malfunctioning or poorly-configured air conditioning systems, endangering data centers. Carrier China recently signed a service agreement with China Unicom to ensure the stable operation of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in its Guyi Internet Data Center, which houses over 30,000 servers. Carrier China is a part of Carrier, a world leader in high-technology heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions, a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Statistics show that an increase from 68°F (20°C) to 86°F (30°C) can reduce the long-term reliability of electronic equipment by as much as 50 percent¹. And when air conditioning fails, the temperature can skyrocket in minutes, putting servers and other equipment at risk. To ensure optimal operation reliability and efficiency for Guyi Internet Data Center, Carrier China will provide daily monitoring, regular onsite inspection, preventive and predictive maintenance services for four Carrier AquaEdge™ 19XR centrifugal chillers and all other HVAC systems. The service team is available 24/7 and committed to swift responses.

“Data holds power. The ‘Internet Plus’ initiative, which calls for an unprecedented need for instant communication and seamless data integration, has been transforming business models and user behavior in China. So it is of primary importance to protect data centers from risk,” said Huang Zhe, South-Eastern Regional Service Manager of Carrier China. “We are pleased that Carrier’s 360°HVAC system protection services are helping Guyi and other data centers stay safe and stay ahead in this fast-growing digital era, enabling smoother IT management for their valued customers.”

Located in Xiaoshan District, Guyi Internet Data Center is a subsidiary of the Hangzhou branch of China Unicom, one of the largest telecommunications operators in China. This center offers server hosting, renting and other IT supports to government organizations and enterprise customers in the e-commerce and cloud computing fields.
