Carrier is pleased to announce the release of the latest update of its heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) system design and energy modeling software, Hourly Analysis Program (HAP) v5.10, that serves as the premier tool for HVAC engineering professionals involved in the design and analysis of commercial building systems.
The HAP software update provides new features for LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) analysis, supports compliance work for current ASHRAE® standards, enhances modeling capabilities, and delivers productivity enhancements. HAP v5.10 automates key portions of the LEED v4 Minimum Energy Performance prerequisite and the Optimize Energy Performance credit analysis procedures, and generates output data in a format that matches key portions of the LEED v4 Energy Performance Calculation submission spreadsheet.
New features and data are compliant with ASHRAE® Standard 90.1-2013 and the Standard 62.1-2016 Ventilation Rate Procedure (VRP). In addition, it can automatically determine zone air distribution effectiveness (Ez), along with the ability to directly specify Ez.
Productivity and modeling enhancements include expanded features for sizing terminal reheat coils, report data for sizing variable refrigerant flow outdoor unit cooling and heating capacity, and updates to Energy Information Administration electricity and gas prices for the United States.

HAP serves as two powerful tools in one package – versatile features for designing HVAC systems for commercial buildings and powerful energy modeling capabilities for comparing energy costs of design alternatives.
By combining both tools in one package, significant time savings are achieved. Input data and results from system design calculations can be used directly in energy studies.
HAP uses a graphical user interface to provide quick and efficient access to project data. A modular approach is used to define components of the building and the HVAC systems. This provides maximum flexibility for configuring data to suit a wide range of applications.
In addition, HAP's 8,760 hour energy modeling capabilities are useful for green building design. For example, HAP energy analysis results are accepted by the U.S. Green Building Council for its LEED®1 Rating System submissions.
