I'm surprised how loud it is even on the lowest fan speed setting. I'm also surprised how noisy it is. Finally, I'm surprised how leaky the unit itself is \-\- the air leaking out the main unit does as much to heat my furnace room as it does my house.

Quiet Furnace at a Great Value

I researched Goodman, Carrier, York and Lennox Furnaces of similar quality before making an educated decision on which furnace was right for my home. I am proud to support a company in the United States and living in the Midwest we have some of the harshest winters in the country. I especially noticed how quiet the variable speed ECM blower was when it heats my home. This unit replaced a 78% efficient single stage single speed Trane that was 26 years old and very loud for my living space. Not having a basement with a house on a slab, the furnace sits in my laundry area just on the other side of my living room. It is nice not having to turn my TV volume up when it runs which is a very good feature of this unit. The LED light on the cabinet is handy should it ever encounter an issue, and the cabinet design feels very secure and insulated with the knobs that keep it in place. I wish my carrier dealer would have told me about the COR thermostat and the ability to adust fan speed settings among other features of the carrier branded controls but they did install a 5+1+1 day programmable tstat. I haven't had a utility bill since it was installed but I do notice it runs less often, and at 96.7% efficiency I know I made a good choice. The product is a very good value for a middle class furnace. The price and performance beats half the cost of a York and 25% less than a Lennox which again proves the great value built into the Carrier Brand of Products. The unit has also increased comfort in other areas of my home that were noticeably colder before install with the old furnace. The air filtration seems to be performing much better as well with only having 1 return in my home, it has been picking up more particulates on my filter media and I am changing a 90 day filter in 30 days time which was unusual with the old unit. This has to be due to exceptional air circulation with the blower. It was the best decision I have made for my family and my home this year. I will eventually replace the outside unit with a Carrier Performance Series condenser for a matching system. I haven't tested the noise level of the air handling capabilities of this model for air conditioning yet due to it being the winter months, but I know it will be comparably quiet in operation. Transition from Lennox to Carrier

I have never owned any HVAC system other than a Lennox. Several weeks ago I decided to purchase a Carrier Performance 96. I am in the middle of a home addition, which added a bit over 300 sq. ft. to my home. Immediately I found the heat coming from the registers to be warmer, and the air speed the fan generated to be a bit more powerful. I feel more comfortable with my new Carrier, with the thermostat set at the same levels, than I did with the Lennox. In fact, setting the thermostat at 68 during the Winter, when I had the Lennox, left me feeling uncomfortably cold. The Carrier set at the same temperature actually is a bit too warm for my comfort level. I have to turn it down to 67 and this setting is a level was not achieved with the Lennox unless I set the thermostat to 70, which I could not do due to the cost. I am very pleased with the Carrier, and my utility bills have decreased with the installation of the new unit. This Spring I have plans to couple the Carrier furnace with a Carrier Performance air conditioning unit.
