'Upgraded' from Infinity 96 / Good Value / Excellent Quality

Carrier Infinity 98 Review In 2005, we had an Infinity 96 installed \- last December it began having issues with the heat exchanger, which did have a 20\-year warranty for parts (only), but the cost of replacement in labor alone would come to more than half the cost of a new furnace. The flame inducer motor was rattling a bit, so with Carrier offering a $900 rebate for a 'buy\-back' of the old furnace, we chose the latest Infinity 98. We certainly were not expecting the old Carrier to go south so soon, but that is history. Included with this new system, we opted for new touch\-screen thermostat, which took much of the clunkiness out of the controls \- much more precise for humidity settings and overall zoned heating and cooling (we have four zones for better efficiency and usage). For the new Infinity 98, we are pleased with the quietness, precise humidity control (the former did not perform as well), and the excellent integration with the existing Carrier ERV (energy recovery ventilator). Overall efficiency is outstanding, too: We noticed a reduced heating bill, even though we gave the new furnace a good workout in January and February. There is a complete re\-design from thirteen years ago, as the exchanger is more compact and the flame inducer motor is so much more quiet than the old one was. While we gagged a bit while looking at a new furnace (as most would), we are very happy with this system. :)

Overall good, but noise is irritating

So far, the heating performance is really good. Temperature is maintained much more evenly than our old unit, and the house doesn't seem quite as dry, which is nice. But the absence of noise from airflow is offset by an irritating ringing/droning sound that I originally thought was vehicles outside or even a train. It's actually somewhere in the unit, and is very annoying.

Very quiet, nice air circulation, nice aesthetics. This is a replacement unit so I use the feature of constant fan run at reduced speed to help keep the downstairs (basement) at a more comfortable temperature. Before in the winter it was cold downstairs. Not any more. This feature works great and you can actually sit comfortably in basement without an auxiliary heat source or blanket.
