Carrier Transicold Signs One of its Largest-Ever European Truck Contracts with Food Retailer Magnit

Rueil-Malmaison, France -

Carrier Transicold Russia has signed a contract with Magnit, a leading food retailer in Russia, to supply more than 2,000 temperature-controlled units for its commercial vehicle fleet. The agreement marks one of Carrier Transicold’s largest-ever European contracts to supply temperature-controlled equipment for trucks and semitrailers. Carrier Transicold helps improve global transport and shipping temperature control with a complete line of equipment for refrigerated trucks, trailers and containers, and is a part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

The Magnit logistics network includes 24 distribution centres and 5,720 of its own trucks, approximately half of which are equipped with temperature-controlled equipment. The Magnit fleet supplies stores in 1,905 locations in Russia, with a total of8517 stores, consisting of 7545 convenience stores, 169 hypermarkets, 51 Magnit Family stores and 752 Magnit Cosmetic stores. Most of the stores are in the Southern, North Caucasian, Central and Volga Federal Districts.

The retail network actively develops its own imports and the fleet is required to travel long distances to directly supply goods from Europe and Asia to its own distribution centres. A considerable portion of the supplies must be transported at precise temperatures throughout all stages of the cold chain. Because of this, the company pays careful attention to equipping its fleet with the most up-to-date equipment on the market.

Temperature-controlled equipment helps to increase the storage life of many of the products being carried, enabling transportation across long distances and increasing the effectiveness of the logistics operation.

Carrier Transicold refrigeration units provide accurate temperature control and reliable transportation, while delivering maximum efficiency for the Magnit fleet. The units are capable of operating in Russia’s extreme climate, which is characterized by large temperature variations. The low sound output of the Carrier Transicold units was also important in their selection as it provides a more comfortable working environment for the truck drivers.
