Gift from Carrier Transicold’s Athens Facility Supports Food Bank of Northeast Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. -

Carrier Transicold, a leading manufacturer of transport refrigeration systems for distribution of perishable goods, is using a more direct approach to deliver food to people in need: a $10,000 gift supporting the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia. The gift, made on behalf of the employees of the Athens facility in recognition of their performance, will support the food bank’s initiatives to eradicate hunger in a 14-county region. Carrier Transicold is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

“Carrier Transicold and its employees have a long tradition of helping the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia in a variety of ways – through financial donations, by supplying refrigeration equipment for its mobile food pantry trucks, and through countless employee volunteer hours,” said Matt Walker, director of operations, Carrier Transicold.

“The transport refrigeration equipment that our employees build plays a vital role in expanding and improving the cold chain, which helps reduce food waste and ultimately helps feed more people,” Walker said. “This is an important global mission, and we are especially pleased to be able to support the needs right here in our own backyard.”

Carrier Transicold’s financial gift to the food bank is an amount equal to 60,000 meals, according to John Becker, president and chief executive officer of the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia.

“Carrier’s gift will help support our mobile pantry distribution system that delivers fresh, wholesome, nutritious food to people who can’t afford it,” Becker said. “Carrier Transicold does so much for the community just by providing good jobs. On top of that, they provide food for people in need, and through volunteerism, their employees have supported our programs and activities for years.”

Founded in 1992, the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia recovers donated and surplus food and distributes it to 225 agencies that reach more than 125,000 food-insecure residents through soup kitchens, senior centers, food pantries, churches and other hunger relief organizations – more than 12 million pounds of food annually.
