Carrier Transicold Presents Latest Innovations for Sustainable Refrigerated Transport at Solutrans Show
Nov 20, 2015
Learn more about sustainable cold chain solutions at the Solutrans Show, stand 4M196, hall 4, 17 November – 21 November 2015
Carrier Transicold’s latest innovations to help maintain a high-performance cold chain while reducing its environmental footprint will be on display at the Solutrans Show, Nov. 17-21 in Lyon, France. Carrier Transicold, operating in France as Carrier Transicold France, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
To support the efforts of transport companies to reduce emissions, Carrier Transicold’s stand will feature an exclusive “Innovation Lab,” where visitors can gain greater insight into the future of refrigerated transport. This will provide an opportunity to learn more about Carrier Transicold’s vision for the use of natural refrigerants in light commercial vehicles, trucks and trailer products, which will help increase sustainability in the cold chain.
At the heart of the stand, the Innovation Lab will showcase Carrier Transicold’s engineering innovations to develop alternative energy sources and natural refrigerants. The lab will display an engine using compressed natural gas (CNG), which enables a significant reduction in polluting emissions — 95 percent in particulate emissions, 70 percent in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions — and noise emissions. In addition, the price of CNG as an operating fuel has been consistently lower than diesel. This engine is the first step toward using a CNG engine for transport refrigeration.
A natural refrigerant trailer prototype unit using carbon dioxide (CO2) as refrigerant and a concept unit for light commercial vehicles using natural refrigerant will also be displayed. Carrier Transicold is making lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerants, such as R-452A, available to truck and trailer refrigeration customers as a “drop in” option, offering a 45 percent reduction over existing hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants.
The new R-452A refrigerant can be used to replace R-404A throughout the Vector™ unit range. The Supra® and Pulsor™ ranges will be available with this alternate refrigerant next year.
Carrier Transicold’s greater goal for transport refrigeration significantly surpasses the benefits of R-452A. For example, the natural refrigerant CO2 is cost-effective, readily available worldwide and has a GWP of only one, which is roughly 2,000 times better than R 452A (GWP 2,140) and 4,000 times better than R-404A (GWP 3,922).
The Supra unit range for trucks will be showcased featuring additional equipment and options for an improved customer experience. A new cab command is standard with the new Supra units, following the DIN standard format and featuring a larger screen and buttons making it more user-friendly. The Supra unit can also be fitted with a new package that includes a low-emission engine that reduces particle emissions up to 50 percent, R-452A refrigerant and low sound levels for noise emissions reduction.
Full-Service Maintenance Packages
To ensure the operational continuity and traceability of the cold chain, Carrier Transicold will also showcase telematics and full-service maintenance packages.
Access to telematics is available through the new DataCOLD™ 600 temperature recorder that connects to the refrigeration unit. In addition to regulatory temperature recording, transport operators can have access to unit alarms, geo-localization and ultimately the integration and recording of data on a Web portal.
Visitors to the stand can also learn about Carrier Transicold’s enhanced full-service maintenance package, everCOLD™, which offers customers added flexibility in the event their fleet size changes during the contract term.
Carrier Transicold will also showcase its new, 24/7, year-round incident management service, oneCALL™, which gives customers access to an expanded network of more than 600 service points in 59 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Via a single number*, 00800 CARRIER1 (00800 22774371), Carrier Transicold customers receive prompt assistance and real-time follow-up of their case by SMS and email or online via the Web tracker service.
The development of the service network and offering is an essential asset to help ensure maximum unit uptime. The everCOLD maintenance packages include all recommended maintenance, conducted by skilled technicians and using original Carrier Transicold performance parts.
Finally, underscoring the brand’s commitment to sustainable cold chain solutions, Victor Calvo, vice president and general manager, Carrier Transicold Truck & Trailer EMEA, will sign the brand’s Sustainability Charter on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 4.30 p.m., Hall 4, Stand 4M196.
