Carrier Côr™ Thermostat Meets California Energy Standard

SAN FRANCISCO -

Carrier is pleased to announce its Côr thermostat has been certified to comply with the latest California Energy Code Title 24 as an Occupant Controlled Smart Thermostat (OCST) by the California Energy Commission. Carrier, a world leader in high-technology heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

A Title 24-compliant OCST must meet a number of detailed specifications intended to receive and automatically respond to demand response signals through a messaging protocol, such as Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR) 2.0, from utility providers.

According to the California Energy Commission (CEC), the Energy Commission's energy efficiency standards have saved California energy customers over $75 billion in reduced electricity bills since the 1970s.

This certification marks another step for the Côr thermostat as it recently was certified to be compliant with the OpenADR standard.

“The team at Carrier is continuing to evolve the Côr thermostat to meet the growing demands of the energy industry and of our discerning customers,” said

Matthew Pine, vice president, marketing, Carrier, Residential. “The OpenADR certification, coupled with this OCST status, signals our commitment to ensuring the Côr thermostat is ready to meet the needs of customers around the country and to ensure it can deliver the sort of sophisticated operations necessary for today’s rapidly changing energy environment.”
