Tamara grew up in Los Angles and spent four years serving her country in the U.S. Navy before returning to her hometown to start life as a civilian.
With the high cost of real estate in Southern California, she thought it may be nearly impossible to ever own her own home. Then a friend shared information with her about the Habitat for Humanity program designed for veterans to help them achieve the dream of homeownership.
“It’s not an exaggeration to say it’s changed my life,” Tamara said. “Before I learned of this program, I could never have imagined building my own home and settling into a neighborhood like this.”
Now she lives in a duplex alongside another Habitat family in the resurgent Los Angeles community of Inglewood. Earlier this summer, Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer Kahn Air installed a new ductless home comfort system in her home, providing air conditioning in her main living space.
“It’s hard to explain how wonderful it feels to have Carrier donate this air conditioning during the middle of summer and to know how comfortable my home will be for years,” she said.
Carrier donated more than 500 home comfort systems to Habitat for Humanity this year, with more than 150 of the systems going to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles. The systems are efficient and can be installed in nearly any space.
“We are thrilled to see these Habitat families enjoy year-round comfort with our ductless systems,” said Meredith Emmerich, managing director, Carrier, Ductless & VRF.

This summer, homeowners across the United States will beat the heat with the help of Carrier Ductless home comfort systems and Habitat for Humanity. Carrier has donated more than 500 systems to Habitat which will be installed in homes from Los Angeles to Hartford, CT and from Atlanta to South Bend, IN and Philadelphia. Carrier has been working with local Habitat organizations, distributors and Carrier Factory Authorized Dealers to install the donated systems.
