Girmachew immigrated to America from Ethiopia more than a decade ago and has been working hard to provide for his family while keeping pace with the high cost of living in Los Angeles.
Like so many immigrants new to this country, he dreamed of owning his own home and building equity for his family’s future.
When he heard about Habitat for Humanity, he found it almost too good to be true.
“This is something that has changed our lives and reminded us why we worked so hard to come to this country,” he said. “And now we have the opportunity to build our home with so many wonderful friends and neighbors and volunteers. It’s been a blessing and one I hope I can share when we volunteer to build other Habitat houses.”
Earlier this summer, technicians from Kahn Air installed a ductless home comfort system in his Habitat home. It was one of more than 500 systems donated to Habitat by Carrier.
“I can only say ‘Thank you’ to the people at Carrier who believe in Habitat and families like mine,” he said.
Carrier had been supporting Habitat for Humanity organizations in Indiana, Connecticut, New York and Florida with product donations for decades before it expanded the relationship this year by donating more than 500 ductless comfort systems for homes nationwide.

This summer, homeowners across the United States will beat the heat with the help of Carrier Ductless home comfort systems and Habitat for Humanity. Carrier has donated more than 500 systems to Habitat which will be installed in homes from Los Angeles to Hartford, CT and from Atlanta to South Bend, IN and Philadelphia. Carrier has been working with local Habitat organizations, distributors and Carrier Factory Authorized Dealers to install the donated systems.
