Carrier, the world’s leader in high technology heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions, is supporting the Middle East green building movement, offering the company’s first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) licensed training event in the region. Middle East building owners and designers look to construct some of the biggest, most luxurious buildings in the world and are going green with more than 900 LEED projects underway in the region. Carrier serves as the largest partner in LEED education around the world, and is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
Carrier’s workshop, entitled LEED 101: Green Building Basics and LEED, attracted building industry professionals at its sessions held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and Doha, Qatar. The training provided detailed information on the commercial and institutional LEED Rating Systems and green building best practices and cost considerations. Participants were given an introduction to the benefits and integrative approach to green building as well as strategies, synergies, and specific examples from real project cases. Learning focused on LEED concepts at the credit category level.
Carrier offers a number of tools to help building professionals worldwide be environmentally responsible. In addition to being a founding member of the U.S. Green Building Council® (USGBC), Carrier is a founding member of the Argentina, China, India, Singapore and France Green Building Councils. The company is a U.S. Green Building Council Education Provider and is the first company to license USGBC’s LEED curriculum.
“Carrier is now USGBC’s biggest global partner for LEED education,” said Rick Fedrizzi, president and CEO of the U.S. Green Building Council, who helped inaugurate the sessions in both countries. “We commend their tremendous commitment to teach their employees, customers, and suppliers about LEED and sustainability. Carrier trainers now offer our LEED workshops in China, United Arab Emirates, Brazil, France, the United States and India.”
Carrier also leverages the Carrier University Institute for Sustainability to provide ongoing professional development, technical training and application tools to the industry. Additionally, customer events, such as the Global Engineering Conference, provide commercial customers with training on key topics and challenges in the industry today.
“LEED education provides the catalyst to accelerate green buildings around the world,” said John Mandyck, chief sustainability officer, UTC Climate, Controls & Security Systems. “Carrier is pleased to apply its expertise in sustainability to train building owners and design professionals in the Middle East on green building strategies to support their efforts to protect the world’s finite natural resources.”
