Carrier Introduces 62X Dedicated Outdoor Air System

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -

New system enhances VRF technology in commercial buildings with improved ventilation

Carrier’s new 62X Dedicated Outdoor Air System (DOAS) improves building efficiency and indoor air quality by working in conjunction with zoned heating and cooling systems such as Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) technology. Carrier, a world leader in high-technology heating, air-conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration solutions, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp (NYSE: UTX).

This 62X is Carrier’s next generation DOAS and features enhanced capabilities and improved interoperability, making it ideally suited for schools, office buildings and hotels. It helps ensure recommended ventilation levels are maintained, while preventing over-ventilation, which wastes energy.

“The commercial segment is quickly adopting VRF technology to meet emerging design standards, improve whole-system efficiency and help building occupants create zones for individual comfort,” says Chris Opie, director, marketing, Carrier Commercial Systems. “We also recognize the growing body of knowledge, such as Harvard University’s recent COGfx studies, which recognize the health and productivity benefits of improved outdoor air ventilation to improve indoor air quality for building occupants. This improved dedicated outdoor air system will support our customers’ demand for more sustainable and healthy buildings.”

The new unit includes a factory-installed direct digital controller that can be integrated into the Carrier i-Vu® system as well as other building automation systems. The DOAS can also work in conjunction with other HVAC systems and equipment.

Available soon throughout North America, it also comes equipped with new features such as 2” double-wall insulation and direct drive fans and has higher heating capacity options, allowing it to operate in a wider range of climates.

“When you couple our investment in VRF technology with this latest upgrade to our DOAS unit, Carrier now boasts a combined solution that can deliver enhanced efficiency matched with improved indoor air quality to create healthy commercial buildings,” says Opie.
