Carrier Transicold Poland’s New Training Center Provides High-Quality Service for Customers

Warsaw, Poland -

WARSAW, Poland, Jan. xx, 2014 – Carrier Transicold Poland’s new training center at Remo-Car headquarters in Święcice is up to the standards of the most modern facilities in Europe. The center is dedicated to providing industry-leading training to transport refrigeration service technicians, refrigerated trailer-body builders and customers. Carrier Transicold helps improve global transport and shipping-temperature control with a complete line of equipment for refrigerated trucks, trailers and containers, and is a part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Since opening in January, 2013, nearly 350 service technicians have received 5,300 hours of training at the new facility.

“We are proud of our new training center and the systematic improvement of technician skills that it helps to foster,” said Adam Glowala, chief technical officer, Carrier Transicold Poland. “These skills are crucial for an effective service experience and to the profitability of our customers.”

The training center classroom is well-equipped, with its own workshop unit and a special semi-trailer training vehicle. This vehicle is fitted with several Carrier Transicold refrigeration units and is also used to promote and demonstrate Carrier Transicold products.

The body of this special training semi-trailer was designed and built in Poland. The vehicle is split into three compartments, with small sections at the front and at the rear of the trailer housing six fixed and two removable refrigeration units. Each unit represents one family of Carrier Transicold refrigeration products. The middle of the trailer contains a classroom that includes several safety features, such as a fire extinguisher, first-aid kit and eye-wash kit.

A Vector™ 1850 multi-temperature unit is located in the front compartment of the trailer. At the rear is a Vector 1550 mono-temperature unit. On the trailer’s right side is a mono-temperature Maxima™ 1300 unit. Three multi-temperature truck units are located mid-trailer:
- Xarios™ 600MT direct-drive unit, which uses the vehicle’s engine for power;
- Pulsor™ 600MT unit with E-Drive™ all-electric technology, equipped with a power generator driven by the vehicle engine; and,
- Supra 750MT diesel engine-powered unit.

Fixed units include typical control panels as well as schematic diagrams, including light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that show the working elements of the refrigeration unit in real time. The two removable units are the Neos 100S and the Viento™ 200, both direct-drive units used for cooling small vans.

Courses are taught weekly by Carrier Transicold refrigeration unit specialists covering three main areas:
•    Basics of refrigeration, electricity and diesel engine principles;
•    Carrier Transicold refrigeration unit design; and
•    Diagnosis and repair of refrigeration units.

The typical course lasts three days and course participants are tested in theory and practice at the end of every program. The training curriculum is customized for each workshop and has a low student-to-teacher ratio, so participants get more attention toward improving practical skills. The goal is for the trained service technicians to be able to apply newly developed skills upon returning to their service workshops.

Technician safety is of critical importance. All technicians are required to wear workshop uniforms and shoes. They also use Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), such as gloves and safety glasses, when working around the equipment.

“Safety is fundamental in our business,” said Glowala. “Technicians often have to work with high voltage on ladders or lift platforms and use certain chemicals. We aim to teach good safety habits that they can take back to their workshops and not only apply themselves, but also teach to their co-workers.”

A special training program was created for trailer-body builders. It explains the proper methods for assembling refrigeration units, which is essential to help achieve desired equipment durability and reliability.

“Interest in our training programs is growing,” Glowala said. “Each one of our training sessions is full every week. Workshop managers are eager to send their technicians to our programs because a well-trained employee works smarter, faster and more efficiently. With more highly skilled technicians, the workshop’s performance can grow, along with its reputation for quality.”

More courses will be available for Carrier Transicold customers, including drivers/operators. The training center can also train Carrier Transicold employees from abroad.
