Gandon Transports Adds Carrier Transicold’s Vector™ and Pulsor™ Units to its Fleet
July 20, 2016
Gandon Transports, a leading French refrigerated transporter, has selected Carrier Transicold’s Vector and Pulsor units with E-Drive™ all-electric technology to transport temperature-critical pharmaceutical products throughout Europe. These units complete their specialized fleet, which is equipped with 100 percent Carrier Transicold refrigeration equipment, including 80 Vector 1950 units for trailers and 22 Pulsor units for small delivery vehicles. Carrier Transicold, which operates in France as Carrier Transicold France, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
Gandon Transports, based in France, is a 400-strong distribution fleet that specializes in temperature-controlled transport dedicated to pharmaceuticals, health products and printed documents. The Vector and Pulsor units are built around Carrier Transicold’s patented E-Drive all-electric technology, which can reduce refrigerant leak rates by up to 55 percent versus conventional systems using standard technology, thereby significantly cutting CO2 emissions. The E-Drive technology also removes a number of serviceable parts from the unit, substantially reducing maintenance and downtime and helping to deliver precise temperature control of up to +/- 0.8 degrees Celsius.
European distributors of pharmaceutical products are required to ensure that goods are transported within the required temperature range during the entire delivery cycle, as spelled out in the European Commission’s guidelines for Good Distribution Practice (GDP; 2013/C 343/01). Carrier Transicold France supports transport companies in complying with GDP standards by offering a suite of products, such as the Vector 1950 unit, and services that are suited to for compliance, including Vector 1950 MT (multi-temperature) and Vector 1550 units for trailers; Supra 1250, 1250 MT and Supra 850 and 850 MT systems for rigid trucks; and the Pulsor range in single and MT options for light commercial vehicles. These high-performance refrigeration units enable fleets to equip commercial vehicles with proven systems for their specific application, from the smallest van to the largest trailer unit.
“Pharmaceutical transport is very demanding and requires total respect of the cold chain,” said Joël Gandon, president, Gandon Transports. “It also requires full transparency and traceability of the data throughout the cold chain. This is why we have trusted Carrier Transicold for its high performance temperature control products and reliable service.”
In addition to high-quality refrigeration units, Carrier Transicold France provides Gandon Transports a customized cold chain visibility solution that enables it to track, monitor and protect the quality and integrity of its temperature-sensitive products throughout its complex supply chain.
The fleet is supported by Carrier Transicold France’s Rennes service station through regular maintenance and annual calibration of the temperature sensors inside the box. Carrier Transicold France also provides the fleet full access to oneCall™, the 24/7 year-round incident management service, providing breakdown assistance from Carrier Transicold’s extensive service network in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, which features more than 600 service centers.
