Carrier Transicold Delivers Low-Noise Refrigeration Solution for Transports JAMMET’s “Silent Truck” Presentation in Poitiers
Dec 4, 2015
Transports JAMMET, a leading transporter of refrigerated goods in France, has selected Carrier Transicold Europe’s Supra™ City low-noise refrigeration unit for the “silent truck” it unveiled Dec. 4 in Poitiers.
Operating below 60 decibels, the Supra City is compliant with Piek standards and meets the requirements of customers who need to make night-time deliveries to retail and convenience store customers in and around residential neighborhoods. Carrier Transicold, operating in France as Carrier Transicold France, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp.
When it comes to noise emissions, Carrier Transicold offers innovative equipment that combines performance, reliability and some of the lowest noise levels of its category for truck refrigeration units. Featuring a noise level below 60 decibels, the innovative Supra City unit has impressed the JAMMET group, transport leader for refrigerated goods in the region Centre and Rhône-Alpes.
Transport JAMMET is an active promoter of silent deliveries that enable transport companies to expand the time periods allowed for store deliveries, keeping supermarket shelves better stocked and consumers better served. In addition, night deliveries help reduce daytime traffic congestion, leading to fewer road accidents, lower carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and fuel consumption, helping to improve customers’ bottom-line. Residential neighbors also will appreciate not having their sleep disturbed by loud delivery vehicles.
The Supra City unit’s lower noise levels have been achieved because of a specific design developed to reduce noise emissions, which includes:
- Indirect air inlet and top cover designed to reduce acoustic waves
- Acoustic material to absorb acoustic waves and sound emissions
- Doors with integrated, sound-absorbent foam
Piek standards were established in the Netherlands in 2003 to respond to growing concerns from local government and supermarkets, and stipulate that noise levels during night-time deliveries (from 10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.) must not surpass 60 decibels, the equivalent of normal conversation.
“We have seen a rising demand from the retail business sector in particular for low-noise units,” said Lionel Pourcheresse, product manager, Carrier Transicold Europe. “As local authorities throughout Europe seek to address the issues of increasing traffic congestion, air pollution and noise disturbance in crowded residential areas, Carrier Transicold aims to provide an answer to these challenges with the Supra City Line.”
The Supra City 1250 unit offers 8,300 Watts of refrigeration capacity and is available for multi temperature applications.
