Carrier Transicold Brings Engineless Refrigeration to UK

WARRINGTON, England -

Stand 3D120, Hall 3, Commercial Vehicle Show, NEC, Birmingham, 25 – 27 April

Carrier Transicold’s ICELAND™ engineless multi-temperature undermount refrigeration unit is making its UK exhibition debut at the CV Show. This new generation of transport refrigeration technology aims to improve sustainability for fleets. Carrier Transicold, which operates in the UK as Carrier Transicold (UK) Limited, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

The electric system offers a cooling capacity of up to 18,400 watts and operates with Carrier Transicold’s ECO-DRIVE GenSet to harvest power from the truck’s clean Euro VI engine. This helps fleets reduce their environmental impact by cutting emissions and improving fuel efficiency, whilst also reducing maintenance costs.

Configured with dual compressors and economisers, the ICELAND unit operates on different refrigerating circuits, which helps maintain maximum capacity, even at idle. For multi-temperature applications, this means there is no power drain created by having to separate the power of a single compressor across two compartments, making it efficient for operators and enabling the system to provide cooling and heating at the same time.

“With this addition to our range we can offer the equivalent power capacity of a high output trailer unit,” said Scott Dargan, managing director, Carrier Transicold, Northern Europe and Service EMEAR. “Mounted beneath a rigid truck or drawbar chassis, the system features very few moving parts and is extremely quiet, operating below 60dB. It’s the ideal transport refrigeration system for urban distribution truck fleets requiring a high cooling capacity from low engine speed and with limited impact on the environment.”

On the stand, the ICELAND unit and the ECO-DRIVE systems are mounted to a Mercedes-Benz Antos distribution vehicle supplied from Carrier Transicold’s European demonstrator fleet.

Foretrack™ telematics upgrade

Carrier Transicold will also launch an enhanced version of its Foretrack™ proprietary tracking, telematics and fleet management system to allow operators greater and faster analysis of their refrigerated fleets.

New features include mobile app functionality for iOS and Android devices and a new online portal allowing access to the most commonly used features with just two clicks. Carrier has also included two-way communication into Foretrack for the first time, allowing fleet managers to alter the set point or operation mode, initiate defrosts and pre-trip checks, and clear alarms from a connected device anywhere in the world. The system also allows fuel levels to be monitored remotely – helping to guard against fuel theft.

The Foretrack upgrade also features a new voice alert and escalation mechanism, meaning that if an alarm goes off and isn’t dealt with swiftly by the first person in the chain, it auto-escalates to a higher level.

Carrier Transicold UK is making the additional features available on new Foretrack installations as standard.
