From the introduction of the first Taylor® ice cream freezer in 1926 to the automatic shake machine in 1955, Taylor Company, a foodservice equipment leader, is proud to celebrate 85 years of innovation and leadership this month. Taylor Company is a unit of Carrier Corp, a business unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), and the world’s leader in high technology heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions.
Taylor Company founder Charles Taylor first introduced the batch freezer to overcome the slow, labor intensive process of making ice cream, starting a company that has been focused on developing innovative equipment to deliver summertime treats for more than eight decades. Today, the company leverages rapid engineering design to provide restaurants, fast food chains and convenience stores with equipment to dispense everything from ice cream cones and shakes to Slushies and frozen beverages.
“Taylor Company’s growth over the decades has been remarkable,” said Taylor Company President Greg McMaster. ”Custom-built equipment, simple operational features and a strong worldwide service support system are key reasons foodservice operators look to Taylor.”
Taylor Company has been a leader in the foodservice industry over its history, moving from its early days of ice cream production to providing the Navy and Army with ice cream equipment - and various artillery items - during World War II.
In the 1950s, the company’s focus returned to the consumer, as it developed a new way soft serve product could be drawn and directly served to a customer with the launch of the soft serve ice cream machine. From there, national chain restaurants began looking to Taylor Company’s expertise to deliver efficiencies to enhance their operations and increase profits. Among the company’s first custom design projects was the development of the automatic shake machine in 1955, followed by a machine to freeze and dispense a slush product in the 1960s.
“Taylor Company prides itself on leading the industry by putting a new twist on frozen desserts. For example, our Crown® series, launched in 2004, is a high capacity, soft serve freezer that can deliver single flavors and twists using gravity and a pump,” McMaster said. “We continue to work with our customers to anticipate new frozen desserts and leverage the expertise of our employees to deliver new sought-after summer treats, which are always appreciated in these scorching hot days.”
While Taylor Company has made its name in the shake and ice cream business, the company’s presence in the grill business has been resilient for nearly three decades, and the organization played a key role in the success of the drive-thru business when the company developed two-sided cooking grills to speed up cooking time for meats.
