Introducing Gemini™ Select Split Systems with Non-Ozone Depleting Puron® Refrigerant

July 14, 2009

CHARLOTTE, N.C., United States

Carrier Corp., a world leader in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR), has introduced a new series of 25-100 ton Gemini™ Select commercial split systems, which exceed ASHRAE 90.1 efficiency requirements and feature non-ozone depleting Puron® refrigerant. Carrier Corp. is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

The new Gemini Select split system offers a 5 percent improvement over previous models on full load efficiency and 10 percent on part load,  while exceeding ASHRAE 90.1 standards by more than 10 percent on both full and part load efficiency. Utilizing Carrier’s Novation™ heat exchanger technology, the split systems provide improved condenser coil structural integrity while reducing the amount of refrigerant required, lowering maintenance and operational costs and limiting the environmental impact, which assists in obtaining Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) points. The newly designed units also weigh less and have a smaller footprint than previous models, making them ideal for replacement projects.

Designed as a direct replacement for existing hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC)-based legacy split systems, the new Gemini Select split system offers a wide range of options, from single/dual circuit and digital compression to low sound fans and scrolling marquee display, depending on the customer preference or installation requirements. Starting in January 2010, the U.S. Environmental Protection Administration will no longer allow the use of new HCFC-22 in new equipment. The Gemini Select split system with Puron refrigerant is fully compliant with this regulation and is available in 25-100 tons (dual independent circuits) and 25-50 ton (single circuit).

Tom Franaszek, Carrier Building Systems and Services chiller product business unit manager highlights the benefit of these units, saying, “Our newest Gemini Select split systems offer our customers an environmentally sound and energy-efficient solution, which can be incorporated into LEED Green Building Rating System™ projects.”
