Carrier Corp., in support of its commitment to sustainable building in China, participated in the Sixth International Green Building Conference. For six consecutive years, Carrier, a world leader in heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) solutions, has joined its parent company, United Technologies Corporation (NYSE:UTX), as a top sponsor of the international conference organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, PRC.
Carrier exhibited its comprehensive high performance sustainable building solutions, including green building consultancy and design, energy efficient air conditioning equipment, cutting-edge building automation systems, and energy efficient retrofits for existing buildings.
“Buildings consume 40 percent of the world’s energy,” commented Ross Shuster, president, Carrier Asia, when attending the International Green Building Conference media briefing. “It is our mission at Carrier to address energy and environmental issues through creating more efficient and sustainable building solutions.”
Carrier’s Environmental Market Solutions, Inc. (EMSI) has been a consultant in over 50 percent of all the China Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® (LEED) certified projects. As the market leader in sustainable consulting in China, EMSI has received increasing recognition through their work on renowned projects such as the Beijing Olympic Village. Carrier achieved another milestone in connection to the 2008 Beijing Games, securing nearly 70 percent of all HVAC contracts for the venues.
Further strengthening its leadership in environmental stewardship, Carrier signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2009 with the Bank of Beijing, establishing a strategic alliance to promote energy efficiency improvements and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in China’s buildings. Also in 2009, Carrier formed a joint venture with Sinostride Technology Co., Ltd., a leading extra low voltage contractor in East China, to further expand its sustainable building solutions and services portfolio.
“Carrier has been the expert in sustainability for over two decades, and now we want to make that green expertise more apparent to our Chinese customers and the local market,” added Shuster. This year a stylized green leaf was added to Carrier’s “turn to the experts” tag line under the Carrier oval logo, reflecting Carrier’s environmental advancements in products, services and operations. A new marketing icon was also introduced with the word “improve” and “building,” using the same leaf element as the logo. “It speaks to what we do: Carrier improves the world around us; Carrier improves people’s lives; we continuously improve building performance, as well as our products and services; our culture of improvement will not allow us to rest when it comes to the environment,” continued Shuster.
John Mandyck, Carrier’s vice president of Sustainability & Environmental Strategies added, “Carrier is the first company in our industry to directly incorporate sustainability into its brand, reinforcing our environmental leadership.” Carrier is the only company in the world to be a founding member of the U.S., India and China Green Building Councils.
“Going forward, we will continue to invest heavily in energy efficiency and sustainability,” summarized Shuster. “We believe this is an effort benefiting both customers and society as a whole.”
