The Carrier S.p.A. factory in Villasanta received an honorary mention at the Confindustria Monza and Brianza association Safety & Health Awards 2008. Carrier S.p.A. is the Italian subsidiary of Carrier Corp., a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).
The association’s first-ever Safety & Health Awards recognized factories that best demonstrated improvements in the following areas: risk assessment to identify and eliminate hazards in various areas, including manual material handling; handling of chemicals, noise and vibration reduction and operation of machines; safety and health training; and implementation and effectiveness of a safety and health management system. Carrier S.p.A. was one of more than 82 Italian companies that Confindustria evaluated.
“Carrier S.p.A. has shown a continuous commitment to protecting the safety, health and well-being of its employees and it shows in the statistics of working hours and injuries with no lost work incidence for nearly 2.5 million hours and no recordable incidence for more than 950,000 hours,” said John Vernon, president of Carrier’s Residential and Light Commercial International Europe.
Award candidates demonstrated evidence of a sound safety and health management system by answering key performance questions with supporting documentation. Carrier S.p.A. highlighted its safety and health initiatives, including safety bulletins, risk assessments, employee training reports and ergonomics initiatives, such as the introduction of light pneumatic screw drivers and cranes to move heavy materials.
