Carrier® Offers Capacity RECOVERY Protection for Mission Critical Market

SYRACUSE, N.Y., United States

Carrier introduces Capacity RECOVERY capability on Carrier® Evergreen® 19XR, 19XRV and 23XRV water-cooled chillers to ensure full cooling capability to mission critical facilities. With Carrier® Capacity RECOVERY central plant water-cooled chillers, units can quickly regain full cooling capacity after an unexpected power loss within some of the shortest times in the industry. Carrier, the world’s leader in high technology heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

“A loss of power or interference with cooling capability in mission-critical applications such as data centers, health care buildings or manufacturing processes can be devastating,” stated Greg Alcorn, vice president, commercial sales and marketing, Carrier. “As a result, Carrier is focused on regaining full cooling capacity as quickly as possible rather than just restarting chillers.”

Once power has been restored to a central water plant, the next critical step is reaching 100 percent cooling capacity on the chillers as fast as possible. As part of the overall integrated design, Carrier Evergreen chillers use the Accumeter device to help achieve fast capacity recovery times. This innovative technology can start and recover a unit to full load in as little as two minutes.

Carrier Evergreen chillers lead the industry for energy efficiency with Integrated Part Load Values (IPLV) as low as 0.299 kW/Ton, which exceeds the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) 90.1 efficiency standards by up to 44 percent. These award-winning water-cooled chillers use non-ozone depleting refrigerant and feature robust and flexible operation with a wide operating envelope. Carrier Evergreen chillers are also the industry’s first full series of seismic-compliant chillers. They conform to International Building Code and ASCE 7 seismic qualification requirements in concurrence with ICC ES AC156 Acceptance Criteria.
